Today was a lot of thinking about keeping our children secure online, I found it really helpful having had support from Kelsey in the past using iPads with our year 3 and 4's. Knowing the background behind the support from smart learners, smart footprints, relationships as well as informing parents about this was really interesting. I particularly connected to the part Dorothy spoke about the displays when you walk into a school showing you what the focus is on and that made me think about our school. We are still relatively new and don't have displays up everywhere. I love the idea of the positive, helpful, kind message and I will be taking that back to my team as well as the senior management team. 

Looking at the Harpara dashboard in more detail has given me a much better idea of how our year 4-6 teachers keep track of their 80+ students and the work they are doing. So great to be able to support them with their learning and also hold them accountable for what they are doing. I must take the time to go and speak to them and see this in action too! 


So...chrome books - well a whole new language to me! I enjoyed the digital dig into chrome books and we do something similar at Wigram with our learners who are moving into the 1:1 chrome book space. They are buddied up with an expert and given a bingo board of tasks to do - from making a copy of a file, to renaming it, uploading, short cuts etc and they find it so useful - as do the teachers who benefit from learners who know their way around the basic chrome book functions.

Explain Everything is something I have used a lot with older learners and with access to more devices. I will keep on pushing for more in our very junior classes - they love the learning when we do get them. 



This task is something it would be very easy to get our newbies to do and they already know so much about iPads.

 Google Educator Exam Well actually getting into the exam was the hardest part - okay maybe not but totally the most frustrating part! Once in though I had a much more relaxed approach to this exam than the last one. I'm sure there were mistakes made but the process of going through the scenarios and filtering out the definitely not answers in the multiple-choice section was good. Reflecting on the past term I know I have learnt an awful lot of new information, consolidated a lot and now understand a lot more about the why of the Learn Create Share and actually everything we do in the New Entrants and Year 1 area impacts so dramatically (as with all learning) but if we can set up good Kawa of care, cyber smart behaviour and respect for the technology from day dot then our kids have a much better chance of turbocharging their learning.  I now feel that all 1:1 teachers should do DFI - not suggesting that is what I am going to do but would feel a lot more confident integrating a...

Week 5 Collaboration - Is the learning visible or not?

 I really enjoyed today learning about the pedagogy behind the learning sites - is the learning visible or not? A really simple question and one that I have used to look at our existing learning site. The answer - not all learning is visible and this is probably due to a number of factors - none of which are irreversible!  Great to hear about the behavioural engagement with the site and also the cognitive engagement - will the children be attracted to the site and want to engage with it?  Will the content keep them there and challenge them, support them and enhance their learning?  I had previously used the multimodal text approach with year 3 and 4's - now being back with New Entrant and Year 1 children it was so useful to talk through with Latham about how to transfer that to very early reading. Another day full of new learning for me! I use slides a lot for planning and previously have used them with older children on iPads for learning.  Today has reinspired me to use them with our Year 1 and New Entrant children. Taking part in the levelling up about slides, and also the Create Slides workshop in the afternoon was great. It was good to hear how other people use slides and also some tips and tricks like the Command D to duplicate rather than having to go to the drop-down menu. Also to group objects and use an image for a background on the slide that cannot be moved by the children whilst they are completing their activities.  I created some slides to use with my maths workshop children next week which I have included a screenshot of here - a total copy of the apple tree in the video - but we all have to start somewhere!
